Nettle-leaved Bellflower

The name says it all. The Nettle-leaved Bellflower is a tall plant with fairly large, mid blue, bell shaped flowers open through summer and early autumn. The leaves do have some resemblence to those of nettles, especially the broader, lower ones.

Fond of lime, favouring woods and hedges, it is common in the south, but increasingly rare further north.
