Mountain Avens

Mountain Avens is similar in appearance to the Wood Anemone, with 8-10 brilliant white petals (usually 8, as suggested by the Latin name, Dryas octopetala) and yellow stamens. The leaves are evergreen, dark green above, but downy white underneath.

Can be found on limestone in Scotland and Western Ireland, usually on mountains, but sometimes down to sea level.
