The
stretch of river from Cleeve lock to Goring lock, just over half a mile
downstream, is the shortest between any two adjacent locks on the Thames.
Nevertheless, Cleeve lock has an isolated and rural feel, with sheep
often seen grazing on the nearby banks of the river.
Nearby riverside communities include Moulsford and North and South Stoke.
