 In 1950 the Kennet & Avon Canal was closed from Burghfield Lock to Heales Lock (towards Newbury) and was not re-opened until 1990. The village of Burghfield can trace its history back to Celtic times. In this area the Holy Brook flows parallel to the Kennet on its journey from Theale into Reading. Click
