At the small village of Bix, lying just off the road linking Henley and Nettlebed, there is a narrow and rather obscure lane that leads ultimately to a farm and a nature reserve. Almost hidden from view in the fields next to the lane are the ruins of St James' church, abandoned since 1875 when a new church was built in the village.
