Back
in the 18th century, the builders of the single track Sonning bridge
could never have imagined the heavy use being made of it a couple
of centuries later. Many commuters now use it to avoid the even greater
congestion over the bridges in Reading, especially when travelling
to and from London. The people of Sonning would hope that a proposed
third bridge over the Thames in Reading may one day bring them some
relief.
Nevertheless, it is still an attractive bridge and in spring, with the willow trees coming out into leaf and the daffodils in flower it can be a very pleasant place to visit ... if one's ears can be closed to the sound of the traffic. Find the location on an interactive map. |
