King Henry VIII had a small palace in Ewelme which he was fond of visiting and it is said that on such occasions he would bathe daily in a pool at the head of a brook that runs through the village. This has since become known as the King's Pool.

The degree of truth in other stories that he used to frolic in the pool with his maidservants, with Katherine Howard or even with Anne Boleyn will probably never be known.
