| When
Reading bridge was built in 1923, its centre span was longer than
any other bridge of its kind. A fleet of heavy steam engines was
used to test the strength of the bridge, a test that it came
through without mishap (the consequences of failure doesn't
bear thinking about!). The Portland stone parapets are the home to a number of fossils. Find the location on an interactive map. |
