A bright, sunny day following a significant fall of snow is an increasingly rare event in these days of global warming, especially in low-lying areas beside the Thames. Yet on this occasion, a few days after Christmas, the snowfall was sufficient to virtually close the nearby bridge across the river.

The cottages shown here are in Sonning Eye, on the Oxfordshire bank of the river.
