The Inner Distribution Road, a ring road to take traffic away from the town centre, was opened in 1969. However, it has become a victim of its own success. A large increase in the volume of traffic using it has recently led to controversial plans to turn into a one-way system.

The Hexagon Theatre, part of which is just visible on the right, was opened in 1978, it's name being suggested by a local schoolgirl.
