Emmer Green - Past and Present

This book, created by the Emmer Green Residents' Association, gives a detailed history of Emmer Green, consisting of 120 pages (including 8 in full colour in the first edition), plus a detailed index. It catalogues the history from Paeolithic times right up to the present day. There are over 300 photographs and detailed accompanying text. There are copies of early maps in the book including the 1844 tithe map. More recent maps have been specially drawn for this publication.

As well as documenting the buildings and landscape of Emmer Green there is much emphasis on its people. The community spirit and intimacy of the original village, the groups, organisations and establishments that set up in the 1950s as the population grew, are covered. Sadly, some of those with detailed knowledge of the early days have recently died, but we are privileged to have recorded their memories first hand.

The second edition has now sold out. Reference copies are in Caversham and Reading Central Library. Anyone with a particular interest should enquire via the contact page.

Reading Farmers' Market Recipe Book

In 2002 we published a book of recipes contributed by many of the stallholders at the Reading market. It also gives a lot of useful information about various aspects of the Farmers' Market, together with several photographs. We had a lot of fun putting the book together, especially when out on the road visiting some of the very interesting and attractive farms in our local area. The book was launched in early November 2002 by the Mayor of Reading, Liz Winfield-Chislett. Available from the Reading Farmers' Market and Cross Lanes Fruit Farm, price £5.
